Supporting the community is extremely important to us here at The Swan. Landlady, Sandra Davies, took over the pub in 2011 when it had been closed down and at risk of becoming derelict. Slowly, Sandra got The Swan, which is the oldest pub in Thornbury, back into use as a community pub.

In the early days, Sandra held a craft fair to raise money for multiple sclerosis and after it’s great success, it became tradition to support a charity of the month - to date, raising over £175,000 for great causes.

Charity of the month

May’s Charity of the Month is Thornbury Volunteer Centre. Come along to one of our events in May to support this fantastic local charity.

Most of our supported charities are Thornbury-based, but every March and September we break with tradition and instead raise money for the very deserving Alzheimer’s Society. To date, we’ve raised almost £175,000. It’s our goal to get to £200,000 by Christmas 2024 and Sandra’s goal to exceed a quarter of a million by the time she retires in 2033.

Love Thornbury

Love Thornbury is a group of Thornbury residents, businesses and pubs that want to see positive change in our community. We run regular fun days for all the family, on the first Saturday of the month on Thornbury High Street.
